MILK GROTTE
The Grotte du Lait, also known as the Grotte de la Vierge, is located beneath a Franciscan chapel. According to Christian tradition, the Holy Family took refuge here during the Massacre of the Innocents (the murder of children under the age of two ordered by Herod after the birth of Jesus). A drop of Mary's milk fell to the ground as she nursed Jesus, miraculously whitening the originally red rock. The shrine continues to be the object of great veneration by nursing mothers, who come here to pray for abundant milk.
