The Saraya («Palace» in Turkish) is a historic building very well known in Nazareth. Built in 1740 by the governor of Galilee, Dahar El-Omar, he was both his home and the building where the region was administered. The clock tower was built at the beginning of the th century. The Saraya served until 1991 as town hall. Several projects, including one concerning a museum, are under consideration.
