ZIPPORI NATIONAL PARK
Zippori was founded by the Asmonéens in the second century B.C. The city was then taken by the Romans in 63 BC, and became the capital of the Galilee under the reign of Herod. Afterwards, it was occupied by the Arabs and then by the crusaders, who built a strong square. The site preserves the ruins of the Roman city, mainly an amphitheatre and remnants of hydraulic installations (tanks, aqueduct). Excavations also led to the discovery of magnificent Byzantine mosaics, one of which was called the Mona Lisa de la Galilee.
