RABBI MEIR BA'AL HANES TOMB (MEIR BA'AL HANES TOMB)
This rabbi, who lived in the second century. was one of the great elders of the generation following the Révolte bar revolt. He helped the writing of the Mishnah. Meir means "the one who illuminates" and Ba'al Haness "miracles of miracles". The latter nickname comes, according to the Talmud, of the authority with which Meir Ba'al Hanes escaped his sister-in-law from a Roman closed house. Born somewhere in Asia Minor, he was, at his request, buried on the shores of Lake Tiberias like his master Rabbi Akiva. His tomb has been a pilgrimage place since the th century. Close to hot springs, we come to pray for healing or divine intervention. Attendance is particularly important on the 14 th of the Hebrew month of Iyar (usually in May).
