It contains the remains of the largest Christian monastery in Palestine from the Byzantine era. It was 145 meters long on 123 meters wide. It was built in the Fifth century to celebrate the miracle of Jesus who exorcisa here a man possessed by transferring evil to a pig herd. The site was reportedly destroyed in 614 during the Persian invasion. Its remains were discovered during the construction of the road after the Six day War.
