This dam has made it possible to irrigate the dead delta, the former arms of the Niger, which are then dried through the construction of two canals, that of Massina and the Sahel. This allows irrigation of thousands of hectares from Markala by going to Mauritania. Thus, the rice fields move towards the desert at a loss of sight. From the dam, we have a wonderful view of them.

It will cost you 50.000F per day per person, but it is unforgettable. Incredible. Canoeing advance with 5km/heure, driven by manual force of the bozo (so it is expensive, work is paid). Canoe you can see the daily life in Niger: women who do the dishes, wash linens, come looking for water to complement the gardens. Fishermen who take their nets. Some Norway pines goods with engine. Sunsets over Niger, sunrise of the moon.
If you find opportunity with Segou, a guide which offers a cruise canoe and if you have some under, do not hesitate
