The church and convent are a well-preserved architectural ensemble. It was the seat of the only female religious congregation established in Panama during the colonial era. The sisters of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción founded their community in 1598. One can see the ruins of a large reservoir, built in the mid-seventeenth century, which could store more than 124,000 liters of water. It is surrounded by four vaults supported by stone arches and columns.
