It is the best preserved house in Panamá Viejo. Also known as the Casa del Obispo (Bishop's House), it is located northwest of the Plaza Mayor. It dates from the end of the 16th century and was built by the religious to rent it out and thus finance part of the rebuilding of the cathedral. In 1640 it was bought by Pedro de Alarcón, a rich inhabitant of the city, who had it demolished and rebuilt on a larger scale. Its ruins can be seen in a 900 square meter area.
