PUENTE DEL MATADERO
The Bridge of the Slaughterhouse, which crosses the Algarrobo River, was the entrance to the city and the obligatory passage to the Camino de Cruces and the Chagres River, as well as to the agricultural area of the interior, towards Natá. It was built to facilitate the crossing of the river, which was complicated by the daily tides and the presence of caimans. The original wooden bridge was replaced in 1607 by a stone bridge. Its name comes from the presence of a slaughterhouse in this part of the city. It continued to be used until 1953 for vehicular traffic.
