IGLESIA DE SAN PEDRO
In front of the Plaza San Carmen, this small white church, classified as a historical monument, would be the second oldest of the continent. Originally made of wood, it was erected shortly after the foundation of the village in 1524. The patron saints of the island, the Virgen del Carmen and San Pedro, are venerated here. Saint Peter is the patron saint of fishermen and fishmongers. In front of the church, the small square is the heart of the village, where people play basketball and stop to chat while enjoying the fresh evening air. Further on, the ruined house where Paul Gauguin lived in 1887.
