NEW WASHINGTON HOTEL
This (seemingly) grand hotel, which has seen many historical figures pass through, is disappointing because it is poorly maintained and could use a good refresh. The beautiful lobby, the airy gardens and the pool are relaxing, but the rococo rooms are outdated. It is perhaps wiser not to stay there but at least to have a coffee, to admire its Art Deco architecture. Its gilding, chandeliers and grand staircases bear witness to past splendors, and the view of the boats coming in and out of the canal in the soft sea mist.
