An impressive pilgrimage and spectacular processions for two centuries in honor of the Black Christ or Cristo Nazareño.
The processions in honor of the Black Christ, on October 21, bring together tens of thousands of pilgrims. People come on foot, sometimes even kneeling on the last kilometers, to pay homage to the Cristo Nazareño, who miraculously freed the village from the cholera epidemic in 1821. The 1.50 meter wooden statue is carried through the streets of the village, before returning to its place in the small church of San Felipe. Be careful with your belongings though, the Naza is also known as the patron saint of thieves!
