IGLESIA SAN JUAN DE DIOS
The church dates from 1598, shortly after the founding of the city. In the 17th century, the Brothers of St. John of God used it to treat soldiers and slaves, an unusual practice at the time. Destroyed in 1744 and rebuilt at the beginning of the 19th century, it houses the Cristo Negro Museum, where crucifixes, 18th century tunics sewn with gold and velvet threads, and photographs are displayed. It is said that the dark color on the European features of the Nazarene appeared over time due to the smoke from the candles that burned all day under the altarpiece.
