Considered the oldest church on the Pacific side of the continent, its construction began in 1522 and was completed a century later. Behind its colonial facade, one discovers an admirable altar (1751) with Amerindian influences, as well as a painting of 1758 representing the Holy Trinity of the Ecuadorian José Samaniego. Tunnels lead from the basilica to different places. They were discovered by accident a few years ago.
