In this district named La Enea, we go to meet the craftsmen. Here, 80% of the villagers make polleras, the white embroidered petticoats and blouses that women traditionally wear for festivities. It takes up to two years to make the most beautiful ones, which can cost up to US$15,000, and orders are placed several years in advance. During La Mejorana alone, the Queen-elect, who is in charge of presiding over the festival, wears a different pollera to each of the highlights of the event.
