Adjacent to the gardens, the Emperor Valley Zoo opened its doors in November 1952, presenting 127 animals in 10 large cages. Today, it boasts 2,300 animals of over 200 species, and offers a quick tour of the majority of Trinidad's wildlife, including mammals, reptiles, fish and birds. You can also see ocelots, caimans, daguet deer, otters, toucans, parrots and ibises in a slightly faded red, less scarlet than those of Caroni, which you can admire at sunset.
