Our Lady of Fatima, better known as Our Lady of Laventille, stands at the top of the hill in the Laventille neighborhood. It is flanked by a statue of the Virgin Mary donated by France in 1876. The latter seems to overlook the city of Port of Spain, a bit like the Christ of Quito in Ecuador. Not far from the church is the Observatory Road, which marks the spot where the Spanish astronomer Churrura and his team established the location of the first meridian of longitude in the New World in 1792.
