STOLLMEYER'S CASTLE
Stollmeyer's Castle, also known as Killarrney, is perhaps the most impressive building on the street. It is an exact replica of one of the wings of Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Commissioned by the German planter Stollmeyer to a Scottish architect, it was built of Laventille stone and decorated with bricks imported from across the Channel. Its construction lasted from 1902 to 1904 but once completed, Mrs. Stollmeyer found it too ostentatious and offered it to her son for his wedding. It was sold to the state in 1979.
