Near the botanical garden and zoo, the President's House is a rather austere building built in 1820 when the British governor of the islands moved there, then demolished in 1873 and finally rebuilt in an "L" shaped Victorian style in 1876 from stones quarried in Laventille. A formal garden with flowers imported from all over the world in orderly groves, a "French" garden that can be seen from a distance. Used as a museum until independence and the advent of the Republic in 1976.
