Open to the public, they were created in 1820 under the aegis of Governor Woodford, the same man who decided on the design and layout of Savannah. Here you'll find species with evocative nicknames, such as the "pièce de boeuf", a tree that leaks red sap when its bark is stripped off, or the "shoelace", a tree that bears its flowers and fruit at the end of a stem measuring up to three meters, or the "Napoleon hat", a tree whose flowers are shaped like the famous bicorne.
