The Piparo mud volcano, also known as Morne roche, is quite imposing but it is a dormant site, which occasionally sends spurts of mud flying through the air. The largest recent eruption took place in February 1997 and dislodged 31 families who lived in the 2.5 km2 that were covered with mud. Piparo has an average of ten active openings that spit their mud episodically. To visit Piparo, a guide is recommended in order to understand its functioning and its particularities.
