L' Eau Michel Mud Volcano & Beach
Go there and contact
This mud volcano, known as L'Eau Michel or Bunsee Trace, is one of the nicest to discover. The hike to the volcano takes 40 minutes to 1 hour depending on your pace, through the sugar cane fields and green hills of the area. Then 20 to 40 minutes are needed to reach the beach of L'Eau Michel. This volcano is of the "wet" type, meaning that the mud rises in the form of bubbles that drip down the two volcanic cones. During the rainy season, the main cone is much larger. The best time to visit is during the dry season, because the path is not muddy, but the sun is strong without shade, so remember to take a cap and plenty of water. The last part of the hike is cooler, where sparrows live (you will hear them). The beach, finally, is not extraordinary but it is totally wild and ideal to refresh yourself after having sweated under the sun. It is best to arrive at low tide otherwise the beach is completely under water, but beware of sandflies which bite here at sunrise and sunset. To visit the volcano with a guide, you can ask an agency or try to contact directly Raiza or Garvin, specialists in hiking in the area, at +1868 268 6608, they regularly organize days of visit of this volcano with local participants.
