SUNDAY SCHOOL

Buccoo is radically transformed every Sunday evening, at the time of the great Sunday School festival. This event attracts local and tourist crowds from all over the island, causing a huge traffic jam. But no matter what, the Sunday School is such an institution that it should not be missed when coming to Tobago. The evening starts very wisely around 6pm with the sound of the steel pan of the "Bucconeers Steel Orchestra", the steel band of the village. BBQ's and tables set up in the street for the occasion allow you to eat for a very modest price. Stands are set up where you can bet a few TT dollars in games of chance. From 11 pm, the music covers all the voices. The old calypso and reggae roots tunes are replaced by the low and heavy vibrations of the sound systems, the scent of ganja perfumes the air, couples form, encounters between locals and tourists take place. After one o'clock in the morning, the atmosphere can become really interloped, until the early morning. On Monday morning, it will take several hours of cleaning to make Buccoo look decent. If you come to Buccoo on Sunday night, you will get a good idea of what the local parties are like, often improvised on the quay of a small port, with reggae but also soca or calypso music. Here, the party is more supervised, let's not forget that it is initially the training of a steelpan school that has turned into a public party over the years.
