Built by the English in 1768 and named after James, Duke of Courland, this fort overlooking Turtle Beach has virtually nothing left. All that remains is the fort's esplanade, bordered by a low wall and four impressive cannons. Originally built as barracks for English soldiers, the fort was conquered by the French in 1781, and retaken by the English twelve years later. The view from here can be admired at sunset, when the fishermen pull their nets up onto the beach.
