REMAINS OF THE CASTLE OF ARLEMPDES
From its basaltic piton, Arlempdes Castle is the first castle of the Loire. Its strategic position at the summit of the Grand-Rocher (thus named the volcanic dyke on which the castle was built in the xiith century), in fact, for centuries, an impregnable fortress. Only the small Romanesque chapel dedicated to Saint Jacques truly crossed the clock. The Montlaur, a powerful family of Vivarais, reign here from xiiith in the fifteenth century until Diane de Poitiers and his family take possession of the places. After the Revolution, the castle passes from Vivarais to the department of Haute-Loire.
