Bouzols is the first castle of the Loire Valley located on a rocky promontory. The primitive castle of the 11th century is trapezoidal in shape, built of basalt blocks assembled with fairly thick joints. The walls are 3 meters thick. In 1808, it was acquired in a state of ruin by the Beaud de Brive family. Restored at the end of the 19th century by Albert de Brive in the respect of its original forms and materials, Bouzols, privately owned, appears today as one of the survivors of a military architecture of the first rank.
