THE public holiday in Suriname, commemorated with music, of course, as well as numerous festivities, street parades... and a marathon!
Suriname celebrates its independence from the Netherlands on November 25, 1975. The government was led by the Creole-born politician Henck Arron, who won the 1973 general election for self-government. Today, this national holiday is of course a national holiday. The commemoration is celebrated with festivities, parades and music in the streets, as well as an international marathon of over 40 km in the streets of the capital, the Srefidensi.
