Actress, painter and illustrator born on August 19, 1899, Nola Hatterman is an emblematic figure in Suriname. After her death, the Institute was founded by former students, and since 1997 this gallery has borne her name. This art school has done a great deal for cultural life and serves as a training ground for a number of young artists, many of whom are now on the international scene.
The institute also enables thousands of children from underprivileged backgrounds to familiarize themselves with drawing and painting.
