THE MEDIEVAL VILLAGE OF AUZON
On a rocky promontory, the village of Auzon, whose name dates back to the pre-Celtic period, retains a Gallo-Roman epitaph inscribed on the church wall. For several centuries, this city has had the privilege of having a precious whale cassette made in Northumbria around the year 700, world known as the Auzon coffret. Walls of the city of xiith century, there is only the door of Brugelet, a classified building, and a tower that protected the church and the castle. Auzon has 4 listed monuments, the most famous of which is the Saint-Laurent Collegiate, a jewel that has just been completely restored. You will stroll through the village by borrowing the «discovery» trails, the starting point of which is the nineteenth century. One of them will take you to the round road where you can see the remains of terraces during rehabilitation. Fruit trees have been planted there and dry stone walls are being restored. It is the ideal place to take a small break and admire the view on the lower part of the village or on the vaults of the castle.
