The crypts or underground chapels, a fairly ordinary complement of the Romanesque churches of Auvergne, are rather rare in the Vellave country. The only crypt known to date is that of Beauzac. It is only at the extreme limit of this country, to Forez. The crypt of the church of Beauzac was discovered in 1847 during excavations to see the state of the foundations. The cavity was filled with land and bones. It is located under the choir, which does not exceed the dimensions. It differs deeply from the crypts of Auvergne by a great simplicity of structure, the absence of evocative chapels. Its length is only 3,70 m, and its width of 4,10 m, its height 2,69 m, two open doors right across the crypt, communicates with two stairs, one of which is open to the public. A curious characteristic of the crypt is the light, elegant structure of the granite columns that form the architectural decoration.
