ISLAMIC ARTS MUSEUM
Opened to visitors in 1985, this impressive white building houses 12 permanent galleries and rooms dedicated to temporary exhibitions. It allows you to learn or complete your knowledge of Islamic art through a very varied path. The Malay, Chinese and Indian rooms depict the history and practice of Islam in these countries through precious objects of everyday life. The Koran and Manuscripts Gallery exhibits more than 200 religious manuscripts and testifies to the great delicacy of illuminated calligraphy. The architectural gallery presents very beautiful models of mosques from all over the world. It highlights the richness and architectural diversity of religious buildings or the opulence of the Ottoman lifestyle in the reconstruction of a Syrian palace piece. The gallery dedicated to jewellery exhibits pieces of great finesse and unparalleled preciousness such as this diamond medal of the Order of the Sun instituted by the Shah of Persia. Ceramics and wood also have their galleries, which display magnificent relics and objects, some dating back to the 13th century. The textile collection displays precious works of silk or brocade, most often with complex floral motifs. But from time to time we see figurative representations, especially in Shia testimonies. It is by far our favorite museum in Kuala Lumpur, due to the excellent scenography and the very high historical and artistic quality of the works presented.
