This fishing village extending from the wharf of Lebuh Melayu (formerly Malay Street) to Lebuh Chuliah is astonishing. The day are only wooden barracks with no great interest. But in the evening, at around 20 pm, at low tide, everything turns into a fascinating place. Take the pontoon which, under the name of The Chew (Cabbage) Pier Kongsi, prolongs Armenian Armenian. Follow it to the end, watching the illuminated interior of the houses with their altars and the life that goes there. The Chinese, less sensitive than we are to the notion of the private, will not be embarrassed. Boats, failed on the sand will fly again tomorrow, around 11 pm, at high tide. At each pontoon corresponds to a clan (kongsi) with its wooden temple. The one in front of Lebuh Chuliah is called the Temple of the Moon and the Sun. In front of the altar, there are five old swords. We're between freely.

Go back to Lebuh Chuliah to Jalan Penang (ex-Penang Road). In the second part of this street, after Jalan Kapitan Kling Mosque, come together all the Chinese hotels where go downhill. Before that, we'll have seen the Har Yang Sit Teik Yeah Kongsi on our right, while at the same time, this impérial red red. Further afield, Nagore Durga Sheriff, a whitish and blue bâtisse building with two minarets, is a sanctuary (not open to visit) dedicated to Saint Shahul Hameed Qadivorli of Nagore (South India). It is also called Indian Mosque. Finally, at No. 407, on the left, is the Ng Fookthong Temple, of the Cantonese District Association, a Cantonese temple devoted to the cult of the ancestors. Its facade is of a reddish grey colour, like the stones of the courtyard. The interior, sober and relatively large, houses paintings and photos of the deceased. Jalan Penang is on our left to get down to the Komtar tower. Past Jalan Dato Okada, you can visit the Krishna Temple, a recent construction.

Finally, to complete this route, continue straight after the Tour tower to Jalan Brick Jams (or Jalan Gurdwara) where the Sikh Gurwara is located. This temple, years old, evokes a two-storey manor house flanked by two towers. Before you enter it, you take away your shoes, you cover the head of a scarf and throw your thoughtlessly. The ground floor is reserved for daily life, with kitchen and regular meeting room. The picture in the central corridor is that of the th Sikh Guru Gbind Singh. The first floor is devoted to study and prayer. Ceremonies take place on Sunday, and you can attend. You can also visit the bookstore and consult English books on the sikkhisme. The last (optional) step is reserved for those who want to say that they have gone to the end of things. They will have to come back and take the Jalan Dato Keramat. In the descent on their right, at the corner of the Kampung Java Lama, they will discover an Indian temple, devoted to Lord Kamachaimman, more briefly Lord Amman (pronounce "Amen"), if you have understood the very sympathetic but very confusing and exalted explanations of the faithful. A supreme God of the Hindu pantheon, he is represented with four heads around his own, including those of Brahma, Vishnou and Shiva. In the altar, closed by ringing iron doors, is the goddess Parvati (or Shakti), the woman of Shiva. Shiva is present in lingam form (phallic symbol). He also saw his son, Ganesh, while Kali, another incarnation of Parvati, kept the entrance. This temple, where statues and paintings accumulate, is the most complex from the point of view of religious meanings.
