The Porta di Santiago is one of the oldest vestiges of European architecture in Asia. The small gate we see today is a remnant of what was an imposing fortress centuries before. Built in 1511 by the Portuguese admiral Alfonso d'Albuquerque, the fortress passed into Dutch hands in 1641 and then into British hands in the early 19th century. The fort was saved by Sir Stamford Raffles, who prevented its demolition in 1810.

Très peu d'intérêt à ce vestige de l'ancienne forteresse. Donne accès à l'escalier pour monter sur la colline St Paul.
