The museum is housed in the grounds of the Royal Palace of the Sultan of Johor, in one of the oldest buildings in the city. Built in 1866 by Sultan Abu Bakar as his palace, the beautiful blue-tiled building overlooks the Straits of Johor. It was transformed into a museum and inaugurated in 1990 by Sultan Iskandar. The collection displays the infinite wealth of the sultans of Johor, whose lineage is lost in the mists of time. It includes silverware, crystal services, sumptuous jewelry and traditional weapons.
