Oil is Malaysia's wealth and is drawn from off Borneo. A museum was therefore needed to trace the history of oil exploitation in Miri and more broadly in Sarawak. The discovery of black gold definitively shaped the country's economic destiny and Sarawak's integration into the federal state. From the top of the hill, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city and the South China Sea. The city's landmark, The Grand Old Lady, Miri's first oil well, dating back to 1910, is particularly noteworthy.
