Jalan Gaya is a street with a rich historical past. "Bond Street was established during the colonial period (1902-1963) before becoming Gaya Street when Sabah gained its independence. Jesselton, the former name of KK, used to be the main gateway to the island of Borneo, and this thoroughfare was home to a rubber railroad that led directly to the shipping dock. Although most of the buildings were destroyed during the war, some remnants of the original architecture remain.
