Guan Hoe Soon claims to be the oldest restaurant serving Pernakan cuisine in Singapore. This may seem hard to believe, given that the address opened its doors in 1953, but it is undoubtedly one of the oldest Peranakan restaurants to serve continuously at the same address. The place is ideal for discovering the specialties of the first Chinese descendants, which blend the flavors of the Middle Kingdom with Malay cuisine. Try sotong assam goreng (squid), nonya mee (pasta) or udang sembal (shrimp).
