It's the Chinese opera, as you can't find anywhere else in Southeast Asia and worth seeing. We play during Chinese festivals on the streets, like the shows of the old troubadours, and also irregularly at the Singapore Handicraft Center from to on Saturday and Sunday. Find out about your hotel's office or your travel agency, to find out if any representations are taking place at the time of your (short) trip. The Chinese know them by heart and don't bother. The colours of clothing are vibrant: red or green for heroes, yellow for emperor and black for villains. The music is very strong and the sopranos give it its heart. The faces are painted rather than, in a symbolic manner depending on the character and status of each character. The story is still taking place at the imperial court where the noble young people prove their courage and love to a beautiful lady.
