LIAN SHAN SHUANG LIN MONASTRY (MONASTERY)
It is the oldest Buddhist monastery in Singapore which means "twin groves of Lotus Mountain". It has been classified as a historical monument since 1980. The overall structure consists of three buildings and three courtyards, reproducing the architectural model of the square courtyard houses of southern China. Here live about twelve monks and a few nuns, who will be delighted to take you on a tour of the owner's house. But a small donation will be welcome. As soon as you enter, you find yourself confronted by the four kings of Heaven (or four warrior Guardians), dressed in sumptuous military garb, each of them crushing a demon under his feet as a warning to the others. The main building, Siong Lim, houses a statue of Buddha. Behind, and facing the third courtyard, stands a statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin. To the west, another building, the Taoist temple is dedicated to the god of the city. Before climbing the few steps leading up to the temple, put your hand in the open mouths of the temple guards, half dragon, half lion, and rotate three times the ball held by their sharp fangs: you will caress prosperity, health and happiness. This temple is famous for its gambling luck. Observe the horse at the entrance. He receives all the attention of the turfists. At his feet are salad and carrots and on his gown are the numbers you hope to win.
