The Jamae Mosque is also known as the more popular Masjid Chulia. It was built between 1830 and 1835 by Chulias, i. e. Muslim traders from the coast of Coromandel, in the southeast, where Pondicherry is located. It is a very austere mosque, especially if compared to the flamboyant Indian temple Sri Mariamman. If you go through a walk in Chinatown, you can take a look at it.
