The "Temple of the Calm Sea" is a Taoist and Buddhist temple dedicated to both Guan Yin, the Sea Goddess and Tua Peh Kong. Built between 1852 and 1855, it was located by the sea, from which it is now separated by the Shenton Way skyscrapers. The roof is beautifully decorated with miniature pagodas and characters supposed to represent life in a Chinese village. We also see dragons, phoenixes and other mythological animals. Inside, at the far end, is the sea goddess guarded by Guan Yin and Tua Peh Kong.
