Recognizable by its bright colors, the Tan Seng Niah villa, built in the 1900s, is the last Chinese villa in Little India. The merchant Mr. Tan Seng Niah had this villa built for his wife, using the income generated by his candy factories on Serangoon road. The architecture is a hybrid of European and Chinese influences. However, with the economic development of the city, the area was redeveloped. This villa bears witness to the commercial interaction between the Chinese and Indians at the time.
