ALSAGOFF ARAB SCHOOL
Built in 1912 by Syed Abdulrahman Taha Alsagoff, a wealthy Arab merchant, the madrasah is the oldest religious school in Singapore. You can admire the wide verandas and the two-story arches, inspired by the Dutch colonial style. The school cannot be visited but if you walk along it, you will surely see little girls wearing the tudung (a veil on the head). This practice is only allowed in religious schools in Singapore. Originally, the school was for boys only, before becoming mixed and then admitting only girls.
