The museum was built in memory of Allied, British, Australian and New Zealand soldiers, POW-Prisonners of War during the Japanese occupation from 1942 to 1945 in one of the worst detention facilities, Changi Camp. The 40,000 prisoners suffered hunger, torture and disease. Those who worked received rations and 10 cents a day. The museum traces the history of the fall of Singapore as well as the daily life of the prisoners through objects, letters or the reconstruction of a cell.
