GARDENS BY THE BAY
A must-see walk through greenhouses and metal trees in a futuristic garden, a true symbol of the garden city.
Opened in July 2012, these immense 101-hectare gardens in the middle of the city are Singapore's latest major attraction, and undoubtedly one of its most interesting. The park welcomes nearly 7 million visitors every year. For Singaporeans once deprived of nature, the days when they had to cross the Malaysian border to enjoy a bit of greenery, a field of real flowers, a forest of real trees, are over. The government has declared its intention to transform Singapore's "garden city" into a "garden within the city". The Super Trees have made the garden famous the world over. Up to 50 meters high and covered with photovoltaic cells, they have become Singapore's new icon. Don't miss this visit during your stay, and stay until evening when everything lights up. As you move from dome to dome, so you move from greenhouse to greenhouse on a stroll that can take several hours. Several of the world's ecosystems have been recreated, each in its own multitude and complexity. From cacti to olive trees, baobabs to tulips, nepenthe to banyan.
More than a hectare of land has been laid out for children, organized into four sections: an adventure course, a water play area, a dedicated area for under-twos and a smaller area with fountains for the youngest. There are changing rooms and showers, and even a café for parents. And best of all, it's free!
