SINGAPORE BOTANIC GARDENS
A bucolic stroll through this garden combining large expanses of lawn, tropical forest and, above all, 6,000 species of orchid!
The botanical gardens cover 32 hectares, including 4 hectares of carefully preserved tropical forest. The National Orchid Garden is splendid. Opened in 1859, the Singapore Botanic Gardens played a key role in the greening of the city. Henri Ridley, a botanist and appointed director of the gardens by Raffles, was responsible for the introduction and promotion of rubber and palm oil that revolutionized Singapore's economy. UNESCO listed site.
