Here you'll find a remarkable series of shophouses built in the early 20th century on nutmeg plantations. These richly decorated and colorful houses bear witness to the opulence of their owners. Some housed the mistresses of wealthy Chinese merchants. At the foot of the hill, these shophouses have been transformed into bars and restaurants. Higher up, the atmosphere is still residential. Parallel to Emerald Hill is Cuppage Terrace, also home to a series of beautifully restored shophouses.
