It is the main artery of Little India but it is also one of the oldest streets in Singapore. In 1828, it is indicated on the maps as "the main street that crosses the island". It was laid out to connect the city to the port of Serangoon, in the north of the island. Many Indians settled there from 1826. They raised buffaloes and produced bricks. In 1880, the district is considered as the Indian enclave of Singapore. Serangoon Road is characterized by its shophouses built between 1840 and 1960.

Rue sympathique de Little India
