In the south-west of the city, former British army barracks have been rehabilitated and converted into an art gallery. Inaugurated in 2011, the site, known as Gillman Barracks in tribute to General Webb Gillman, embodies Singapore's ambitions to make its mark on the art world. On an estate of over 6 hectares, thirteen branches of international galleries have opened spaces in buildings featuring colonial architecture. Although the location is very pleasant, it is unfortunately difficult to access.
