This building, built by the canons in the 11th and 12th centuries, is the largest Romanesque church in Auvergne.

The Basilique Saint-Julien is the largest Romanesque church in Auvergne, and has been listed as a French Historic Monument since 1840. A true jewel of Romanesque art, it is enhanced by contemporary stained-glass windows (the work of world-renowned artist and Dominican father Kim En Joong) that bring light and color. The rich polychromy of the stonework, the quality of the frescoes in the nave of the Chapelle Saint-Michel (ask for the keys at the tourist office), and the Gothic statues make this edifice so famous. A must-see.

Nestled in the heart of the old town Brioude, which also deserves a promenade, the basilica is impressive. The entrance you will notice paving made of pebbles (high heels, the floor is uneven!!). A beautiful fresco, that I find strange takes us to the last judgement. Do not forget the virgin with bird with such a soft smile.
Beautiful basilica, visit if you are in love with Romanesque art. Superb frescoes are to be seen (do not forget to ask for the keys to the St Michel chapel the Tourist Office). First floor you can admire the work of the floor homemade nave waves of the river. Do not forget to go down the crypt.
